WE FED THE RAVENS
WE FED THE RAVENS

'Feeding the ravens' was a common kenning in Old Norse skaldic poetry and it was used to explain the success or the favor in battle, being ravens an important symbol for Norsemen:
"The raven in Old Norse poetry is an omen of the coming slaughter, much like it is in the Old English tradition, but in Old Norse poetry the omen is not a bad one. On the contrary, the raven is used to show that the warrior is favoured by the blackened bird as opposed to him being the next meal. The raven follows the most prominent and strongest warrior in the hope of a great
feast at the end of the battle." -
